Step into a truly unforgettable piece of Hepburn Springs history at Pietro’s Residence, a beautifully restored private suite within the iconic Old Macaroni Factory. Built in 1859 by Italian political refugee brothers Pietro and Giacomo Lucini, this remarkable Palladian-style building is believed to be the oldest of its kind in Australia and remains one of the region’s most unique and historically significant stays.
Rich in atmosphere, artistry and old-world romance, Pietro’s Residence seamlessly blends raw heritage character with contemporary comfort and understated luxury. Original stone walls, soaring ceilings and rare hand-painted murals have been lovingly preserved, offering guests an immersive experience unlike anywhere else in Daylesford and Hepburn Springs.
The beautifully appointed bedroom showcases remarkable political and poetic ceiling and wall murals depicting Italy’s fight for unification, creating a deeply evocative and intimate retreat. Drift off beneath these extraordinary artworks wrapped in luxurious pure linen bedding, while hydronic heating and designer touches ensure comfort year-round.
The living space continues the story of the Lucini family, with original ceiling murals capturing memories and scenes of Italy. Carefully curated interiors and bespoke furnishings create a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere, complete with a gas fireplace, streaming TV, designer décor and a custom artist-designed sideboard featuring a sink, bar fridge, tea and coffee facilities, and a selection of Italian-inspired treats.
Adding a contemporary architectural element, the striking bathroom pod is crafted in beautiful duck-egg blue glazed tiles and elevated on a raised platform. Finished with luxurious Loom towels and Leif amenities, it provides a boutique hotel feel while respecting the integrity of the historic building.
Outside, original stone steps lead onto your own private sun-drenched terrace and traditional bocce court – the perfect place to enjoy a slow afternoon wine amongst the gardens. Guests are also welcome to wander the wider grounds where guinea fowl, wild ducks, kangaroos and echidnas are frequent visitors, adding to the peaceful country atmosphere.
Perfectly positioned in the heart of Hepburn Springs, Pietro’s Residence is moments from the Hepburn Bathhouse, mineral springs, walking tracks, cafés and some of the region’s most celebrated dining experiences.
The Old Macaroni Factory’s adjoining event spaces – Lucini’s Lounge, H.D.C. Long Room and the Macaroni Room, are also available for intimate celebrations and private functions, catered in collaboration with acclaimed local restaurant The Surly Goat. These spaces remain separately accessed from Pietro’s Residence to ensure guest privacy throughout your stay.
Featured in World of Interiors, The Design Files and Galah Magazine, and finalist in the 2025 Architeam Heritage Awards, Pietro’s Residence offers an extraordinary accommodation experience where history, art and luxury come together in the heart of Hepburn Springs.
Beyond ‘Pietro’s’ you’ll find yourself immersed in the charm of Hepburn Springs and Daylesford, a region celebrated for its healing mineral springs, rejuvenating spa experiences and breathtaking natural beauty.
